24-Hour Crisis Intervention
Manistee-Benzie Community Mental Health clinical staff provides emergency crisis intervention services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Services include both telephone and face-to-face interventions to resolve a crisis and may include crisis response, assessment, referral and direct therapy. Screening for admission to psychiatric hospitals on both an involuntary and voluntary basis is provided at area emergency rooms 24 hours a day and in our offices during office hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM weekdays. The service can be obtained by calling 1-877-398-2013, by going to one of our counseling offices or visiting an area emergency room.

Outpatient Therapy
Short term crisis intervention is provided on an outpatient basis to people with a severe and persistent mental illness. Master’s level therapists who are trained in Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change provide ongoing therapy for co-occurring disorders of mental health and substance abuse disorders. Therapy is goal directed and cognitive-behavioral in its approach. The focus is on increasing a person’s recovery through the identification of coping skills and personal strengths. Individual, group and family therapy is available.

Case Management
Case Management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation and advocacy for options and services to meet a person’s recovery needs. The case manager coordinates services and helps oversee the Person Centered Plan. They link them to needed services and monitor the results. Case Management is intended for people who require a number of mental health services and who have difficulty accessing or sustaining services on their own. The case manager can do outreach into the community and is often part of a coordinated team approach to recovery. We provide both intensive case management, for those with a higher level of need, and traditional targeted case management.

Peer Support Services
Peer Support Specialists are people who are stable in recovery from mental health and substance abuse disorders who now work for Manistee-Benzie Community Mental Health. They share their experience and message of recovery with other people to help them get well. They assist people in becoming more productive, independent, self-fulfilled and active in their community. The Peer Support Specialists at Manistee-Benzie Community Mental Health received a Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards 2007 Award of Excellence for their outstanding work with others.

Co-Occurring Disorders Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment
We believe that it is best to treat people who have both a severe and persistent mental illness and a substance abuse problem in one place in order to best help them achieve recovery through a coordinated approach to their care. We have successfully implemented Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment Teams based on the IDDT model. All of our staff had extensive training in the areas of substance abuse and dependence, relapse and recovery, and the Stages of Change. We help people obtain recovery by providing help with practical pressing problems and by treating mental illness and substance abuse with counseling, medication, group therapy and intensive case management. We help coordinate family and natural support involvement,  supportive employment, residential and housing services, and make connections with Peer Support Specialists and consumer led support groups like Dual Recovery Anonymous. We no longer provide treatment for people with only substance use problems. This evidence-based practice recently earned high marks in an initial fidelity review by the Michigan Fidelity Assessment Support Team. For more about this model, go to www.ohiosamiccoe.case.edu.

Jail Services and Jail Diversion Services
In accordance with the Mental Health Code, our clinical staff can help divert a person with mental illness from jail either before they are formerly charged or after they are arrested by working out a treatment agreement with the local courts when appropriate. Only non-violent offenders are considered eligible to for jail diversion. Jail services are provided in both Manistee and Benzie Counties to help treat men and women who are incarcerated and who have mental health or substance abuse issues. Case management, crisis services and medication services are provided to inmates through coordination with our jail worker, crisis team and medication services staff.
